11-Mar-09 : Tom Moran's Astro Images
Society member Tom Moran sent in a selection of his excellent astronomical images to show what a talented amateur can do, even from a heavily light-polluted area like the North East of England.

03-Mar-09 : Comet Lulin / Venus
Venus is currently at its brightest, a beautiful thin crecent, sliding into the west just after sunset. It's difficult to miss. On the other hand, Comet Lulin begins to slowly fade as it returns from whence it came, into the dark and fathomless depths of the outer solar system. Will we see it again? Will it be as disappointing next time around? I don't think any of us will be around to find out?
Pictures by Simon Murray.

01-Dec-08 : Occulation of Venus by the Moon
You may have noticed Jupiter & Venus in the west shortly after sunset. If you have been observing these over the last few weeks you can see the separation between the two is rapidly decreasing.
On the 1st December they are only separated by a few degrees. However we will have the added bonus of the occultation of Venus by a thin crescent moon!
This will be the view on the 1st December 3:41 pm with the moon only 10 degrees above the southern horizon:-
Schedule
3:44pm : Sunset 3:45pm : Moon starts to cover Venus 5:13pm : Venus will start to re-appear
